Well, the PSP Vita has been announced and the Technical Specs have been confirmed. Here's a post I made back in May on the subject.

The Sony NGP (Next-Generation Portable) PSP2 pretty much...

The
device includes dual analog sticks, a 5 inch OLED capacitive
touchscreen, 3G, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi support. Internally, the device
features a 4 core ARM Cortex-A9 core processor and a 4 core SGX543MP4+
graphics processing unit as well as LiveArea as its main user interface,
which succeeds the XrossMediaBar for the PlayStation Portable.

Holy Shit!!! 4 COUNT'EM ~~4 CORES~~ of Graphical power.... affraid That's WAY more power than I even said would be optional, I only said that I would like a BETTER, not bleeding edge.

~~CAUTION:
The following contains highly detailed information that might become
boring to any non-technical staff/members/guests and/or small dogs...
you have been warned~~

CPU

Alright,
the ARM Cortex-A9 CPU has 2GHz typical operation speed (1Ghz per core
in all technical retrospect) with scalable power states for desired
battery maintaining. Has up to 4 coherent cores and can optionally
contain the NEON floating point processing engine. This processor can
come within the powerful 4-core design or the more power-conservative
single core design. This newer CPU can support up to 128kb of L1 cache
and up to 8 MB of L2!!! All of this is capable just by sucking up 250mW
of power per core and can achieve over 4000 DMIPS (Dhrystone Million
Instructions Per Second)

GPU

The
SGX543MP4+ Graphics Processing Unit is a technical marvel by the folks
over at PowerVR (Videocard Manufacturer) This chip is designed with 4
cores of pure power. A quad-core with USSE2 or Universal Scalable Shader
Engine, this engine exceeds the requirements for both OpenGL 2.0 and
Pixel Shader Model 3.0, making this beast both full compliant with the
rules to be 3D and complex 2D capable easily. It's clocked at 200 Mhz
With a 133 MPolygon/s (Million Polygons per second) and a fill rate of 4
GPixel/s (For reference my Radeon HD 5770 has a fill rate of 13.6
GPixel/s) All of this is happening on a 960x544 pixel 5 inch OLED
touchscreen at 220 ppi (pixels per inch) in a 24-bit color alignment.

In short terms... Simply fucking amazing... Cool

*EDIT* Be sure to thank me for my research if you found this information useful.

Basically, it's been confirmed that the CPU is indeed 4 cores and the GPU is also 4 cores. All on a 5-inch 960 x 544 OLED screen with over 16 million colors. What's new is that the screen is supposed to be multi-touch compliant along with a multi-touch back pad. Dual analog sticks and front and rear cameras. They also have a 3-axis gyroscope, and a 3-axis accelerometer. There is also a 3-axis electronic compass for use with the GPS funtions of the device.

All in all, even I would be so inclined to get this. Not right now of course, but certainly later on when the price went down.

PS- Be sure to thank me for the information as it took a lil' bit of research.

BTW: Here's a video of the Vita

The vita looks like a sweet portable gaming system and the price won't be that high for a new console. The WiFi only model is $250 and the 3G/WiFi model is $300. The 3G version is linked to AT&T if you have to be on the internet all the time and have money to burn.

I'll admit, it does look sweet. However, the lack of UMDs may prove to be a problem. You will need to purchase Game Data for PSN, which seems to be having trouble because of a 'certain incident'. SHould game data be availible for purchase at GameStop or somewhere, it will take some time to download on the PSP. Plus, if it doesn't have enough room, you might need to delete stuff that's already on there. I'm not sure what to think... I think I may have given myself an epic brain cramp... @_@'

Actually Ed, the time it would take these Vita's to successfully transfer data around that of 1 GB would be that of maybe 5-10 mins. and that's on slower connections of USB 2.0... No doubt in my mind that they are using USB 3.0's full potential, I've seen USB 3.0 in action and have seen this shit fly on through a gig in less than 2 mins easily. So transferring some game data should take really no time at all in game stores and can be totally done by the time you're done browsing. Of course, I have no clue how big these games really are, nor how the would be given to you....... Actually I'm going to do some research on this matter. Should be some hacks available for this, since no doubt it's been leaked for some time, will definitely share if I find anything. Twisted Evil
