I"m sure people have their opinions of an RPGs Battle System. Turn based, time based, real time strategy, everyone has one they like. However, which one is considered the GREATEST?

For an RPG game huh? Hmm...... Makes me think, you would need a combination of all of them. It depends on which game, if it's a really in depth RPG i think that a strategy works best.

methinks thars some thing good here. lol. i always liked real time. al those turn based came in handy when u wanna stratigize but took forever and didnt feel real or fair.

I disagree with this, Fire Emblem (GBA) mastered this appeal and made it so each battle was different... Lances against swords, swords against axes and axes against lances. Simple but it worked....... Hmmmm, might work for my game..... scratch

Depends on the type of TBB (Turn-Based Battle) System. Many games use it. However, one game series added a tweak that makes it seem like the player and AI are on an equal standing. Shadow Hearts addition of the Judgement Ring, actually forcing you to have accurate hand-eye coordination just to attack. To add to the challenge, you will also face status ailments that alter the way the Ring moves, such as putting it to reverse or speeding it up.
