Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep is a prequel to the entire KH saga. Though it is the sixth game in the series, yet it the first part of its time line. It is about 3 Keyblade Wielders (Terra, Aqua, and Ventus) trying to become Keyblade Masters and save the world. It is a PSP exclusive.
Plot: 9
The plot is similar to previous games, with all of the concepts, yet it still feels like it belongs. I won't give any hints to what goes on, however.
Originality: 6
I hate be be critical, but it goes as far as stealing quotes from past games. It's like giving new people the exact same scenario that was used a few years ago, literately.
Sound: 8.5
Certain music can get annoying once you play for awhile. However, The right music seems to play at the right moments most of the time.
Graphics: 9.5
Using install data and setting the options to 32-bit and accelerated, this game can show off some very impressive scenes, both cut scene and game play. If not set to these settings, expect some lagging during game play. Crisp and clean, all in all for a PSP.
Features: 7
It supports LAN, but that's it for multiplayer. Even so, wireless competition is great as it is addicting for this game. As for mods, you are looking for the Final Mix version of the game. The remake will have more features for the extremely hardcore. But for those who aren't you might not want to bother. It only includes a few new features, some of which might not be worth it.
Support: 8
As it seems with other Square Enix games, you are encouraged to register to get some special treat. It's featured on it's main sight, along with its other merchandise. While the developers are loyal, there is alot of other things to distract you.
Final: 9.25
Overall, this is a fun game, and I do recommend it. However, your thrills might not last forever, because you can breeze through it, unless you play Critical, where I would recommend that newbies should DEFINATELY stay away from until they get a strong grip on controls and their fighting styles.
Comments:
On the storyline, while it might not be 'super original', it still works fine with the series.
On gameplay, the Command Style feature is very nice, allowing easy access to all of the moves you equip. And Shotlocks are an excellent way to exterminate enemies.
On multiplayer, this is where you can show off your skills. 3 types of characters to choose from, yet you are unique to the way you set your moves. Competitive or co-op, Mirage Arena is fun no matter what.
I'm saying it again, this game is something a PSP owner should look into.
